Saturday 19th April
Clapton 0 Burnham Ramblers 0 Att 037
Clapton entered the last game of what can be described as an up and down season looking for the all important win along with a much improved display after the non performance of last saturday.
A heart to heart in midweek with all the players and a good training session had the side buzzing and this was apparent as Tons showed signs of promise in a game which somehow remained goaless with Clapton on top for long periods.
An early corner was pulled back to Chalk who volleyed the ball into Dickenson who could only direct his header from close range into the grateful visiting keepers hands.Tons had further chances falling to Marlon Agard firstly having a shot cleared off the line as well as a superb one on one save by the visiting keeper in the second half. Tons best move of the game resulted in the ball in the net only to have a flag raised as Agard put a final touch to a superb king cross. Danny hayes making an impression when coming on had a fine run and shot just wide of the post.
Clapton mainly doninated the game but can thank keeper George Dawson for a super save midway in the 1st half taking the sting out of a shot and then scrambling back to his line to stop the ball creeping over the goaline. Dawson was again on hand to make a great save at full strech on a rare Ramblers attack after the interval.
Oli king had a free kick fly just wide of the post for tons before the ever improving Peter Moore made a fine challenge at the other end with time running out.
So Clapton will end the season finishing in an improved 11th position in the league however it could have been far different had around christmas Clapton managed to hold onto 5 players who left the club for a higher level of football.
Clapton 1 Dawson 2 Richardson 3 Moore 4 Chalk 5 Leader 6 Dickenson 7 King 8 Malton 9 Armstrong(D Hayes 66) 10 Agard 11 'KK'(T Hayes76) not used Mitchell,Adamson
**Clapton reserves completed their season with a 4-1 defeat away at Brentwood Town leaving the Tons second string likely to finish in a creditable 13th position in the table.
**** Great news for Claptons under 16s side as a Eastern Junior league title is almost assured.
